OUR WEDDING MEMORIES
"I do", for the second time.

Our second wedding was at a court house on May 16, 2002 in Coral Gables (Miami), Florida.   This wedding was devoid of any frills -- totally opposite the first wedding we had in the Philippines.

We were initially planning for another church wedding in Miami around June 2002 for the benefit of Joseph's family and friends who were not able to come to the wedding in Cebu.  However, due to the terroristic activities and America's red-alert status, the US government shortened the stay of tourists in the country to 30 days, instead of  6 months.

Since I came with Joseph to America on my tourist visa, this development did not leave us enough time to plan for a second wedding.  What became a priority now for us was for Joseph to be able to file his Fiancee petition for me, so I could stay in the US beyond the 30 days tourist stay I had on my visa.   Thus, the simple, civil wedding ceremony was had -- totally for legalities only.

The ceremony was soo quick it was done in 2 minutes!  But what I cannot get over with, until now, is the fact that it was very, very easy to get married here in the US.  In the Philippines, we had to go through all the beaurocracy - going to this office and that, attending a seminar, filling-out forms and submitting documents, etc.    Conversely here,  all we had to do was to file for the license, whereby only an ID is required (even for me who was just, back then, a tourist), and pay for a marriage seminar that we couldn't attend.

And as Joseph said, it is just as quick to file for a divorce.

The court clerk who "officiated" the ceremony was also our photographer at the same time. Hilarious, isn't it?

I just thank God I had my real wedding back in Cebu!
